KettlePit was inspired one summer evening while using a kettle grill to enjoy a crackling wood fire. Two years of development later, our patent-pending KettlePit Original 22 was forged.
Use & Care
KettlePit requires very little maintenance. But if you want to ensure season after season of relaxing evenings around the fire, we suggest you follow these basic care tips.
1. Choose the Right Wood
Hardwoods, such as oak, pecan, or hickory, and harder softwoods, such as juniper and cedar, are the best fuel for your KettlePit. These varieties are seasoned, meaning all the moisture has been evaporated. Wet or damp wood will create a smoky flame, as well as make your KettlePit harder to clean. For the best flame, we recommend burning oak or juniper firewood. Be careful when using wood pellets in your kettle as the pellets can fall into the ash pan and block the airflow to the fire.
2. After Use
After your fire has gone out, check to make sure your KettlePit is cool to the touch. If so, open your KettlePit to access and empty the kettle grill’s ash pan. Then, we recommend you store your KettlePit in a cool, dry location.
3. Cover When Stored Outdoors
If you plan on storing your KettlePit outdoors, we recommend covering it when it’s not in use. A little moisture outside your fire pit is okay as long as you dry it off with a towel. Planning on leaving your KettlePit in one spot just for the night? Use your kettle lid a s the perfect temporary cover option for your KettlePit. Once the fire has died down and your KettlePit is cool to the touch, you can remove the KettlePit panels and store in a cool, dry location when not in use.
4. Protect Heat-Sensitive Surfaces
If you want to use your KettlePit on a deck (wood, composite, or Trex), stained concrete, grass, or any other heat-sensitive surface, we highly recommend using a fire mat. Fire mats protect surfaces from high heat so you enjoy the roaring fire in your KettlePit on virtually any surface!
5. Cleaning
Wipe down the exterior of your KettlePit with a wet microfibre cloth and mild soap. Do not use aggressive sprays as that may damage or discolor the powder-coated finish.
By following these simple care instructions, your KettlePit fire pit will burn more efficiently and cleanly, and remain in top shape for a lifetime of enjoyment around a hot, roaring fire.
